Description
ARDOT’s Intersection Improvement Program funds improvements to intersections on Arkansas’s State Highway System in unincorporated areas and cities with populations below 200,000. Eligible work includes new traffic signals, upgrades to existing signals, intersection improvements, roundabouts, and signal coordination. The program helps local communities address changing traffic volumes and access between highways and local streets.
A local public agency requests the project and serves as its sponsor. ARDOT evaluates eligibility, prepares plans, awards the construction contract, and inspects the work. The program began in 2005 and has improved more than 50 intersections in 33 counties.
