    Description

The Institute for Research on Poverty (IRP) at the University of Wisconsin–Madison runs the Visiting Poverty Scholars Program to support research by scholars from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and strengthen their resources and professional networks. Formerly called Scholars-In-Residence, the program supports a five-day visit to IRP or a partner in the U.S. Collaborative of Poverty Centers.

During the visit, scholars interact with resident faculty, present a poverty-related seminar, and become acquainted with center staff and research resources. A faculty host helps arrange interactions with others on campus. Participants’ research spans poverty and inequality topics including housing, immigration, education, family well-being, social support, and the effects of anti-poverty policies.
