Funder: Institute of Translational Health Sciences
Due Dates (Anticipated): August 2027 (Letter of Intent) | October 2027 (Full application)
Funding Amounts: Up to $50,000 in total costs for up to one year, plus in-kind resources and training
Summary: Supports generalizable tools and methodologies that improve preclinical development, evaluation, and real-time monitoring of clinical efficacy.
Key Information: All Principal and Co-Investigators must be ITHS members; the Contact PI must be faculty at an academic institution.
The Institute of Translational Health Sciences (ITHS) supports development of computational, biochemical, biological, and engineering-based tools that advance therapies and treatment approaches across the translational science spectrum. This pilot award serves as an incubator for projects improving the efficiency, quality, and impact of preclinical development and evaluation, including tools for real-time monitoring of clinical efficacy, such as wearable devices.
Projects must bring together expertise to improve the speed, quality, cost-effectiveness, and reach of clinical and translational research. Priorities include microfluidics, organoids and tissue chips, integrated robotics, AI-based drug design and discovery, and biomarker analysis. Tools that reduce or replace animal testing are also encouraged. Proposals must explain how their tools generalize within translational science; proposals without this generalizability are nonresponsive.
