The International Team for Implantology (ITI) funds innovative, original preclinical and clinical research to advance implant dentistry and make findings accessible to dental professionals worldwide through international peer-reviewed publications. The ITI Research Committee selects projects on scientific merit. Small Grants primarily support early-career researchers developing responsibility and a research track record, while Large Grants support experienced researchers, groups and multicentre projects.
A portion of the research budget supports defined priorities, but proposals outside these topics are welcome. The 2024–2026 priorities are artificial intelligence, big data and digital transformation; geriatric implant therapy; molecular and cellular aspects; personalized medicine and genetics; and peri-implant diseases. A targeted call also addresses comparative evidence on single implants versus 3-unit tooth-borne bridges.
