Summary: Supports early-career biochemists in the Developing World through laboratory visits to learn advanced techniques unavailable in their own countries.

Key Information: Intended for early-career researchers at the tenure-track Assistant Professor stage.

    Description

The International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB) established these fellowships in response to increased demand for further training among early-career biochemists in the Developing World. The program enables researchers to spend one to two months in an established laboratory, learning state-of-the-art techniques that are not readily available in their own countries.

The emphasis is on further training through a laboratory placement. Proposed work is evaluated for its scientific merit, the need for training or instrumentation outside the home institution, the quality of the host training environment, and feasibility within the visit. The scoring rubric gives its highest ratings to compelling research questions, new collaborations, well-established hosts offering explicit training opportunities, and realistic experimental plans that allow time for troubleshooting.
