Promoting Research Opportunities for Latin American Biochemists (PROLAB) funds research visits for graduate and early-career researchers to access expertise abroad and build life-science capacity at home.
Funder: International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Due Dates (Anticipated): March 2027 (Application deadline)
Funding Amounts: Up to US$7,000 for research visits of 1–6 months
Summary: PROLAB supports short research visits that give graduate students and early-career researchers access to expertise, technologies, and scientific collaborators abroad.
Key Information: Previous recipients of IUBMB support are ineligible, and host laboratories must have an ASBMB member in their leadership.
PROLAB is a joint program of the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB), the Pan-American Association for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (PABMB), and the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB). It supports short stays in U.S. or Canadian laboratories for graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and new investigators from PABMB member countries.
Visits can advance thesis research, enable experiments requiring specialized techniques or expertise, support scientific collaboration, or provide advanced training. By covering travel and living expenses, the program helps researchers access resources unavailable in their home laboratories. Its long-term goal is to strengthen cooperation among the partner organizations and build life-science capacity in participants’ home countries through international research connections.
