Description
The J G Russell Award, administered by the Australian Academy of Science, provides supplementary funding for talented younger researchers in the basic sciences. Supported by the generosity of the late Miss J Russell, it recognises the costs of experimental research and expresses the community’s regard for emerging scientific talent. Funding contributes towards equipment, maintenance and research travel.
The award supports a broad range of scientific work. Recent projects include deep-tissue bioimaging, renewable energy for protected cropping, noise pollution’s effects on soil organisms, and greenhouse gas emissions from artificial waterways. Earlier recipients have used support to purchase laboratory and field equipment, expand research capabilities, undertake scientific visits and collaborate with overseas colleagues.
