The Jack Miller Center Fellowship is part of the Newberry Library’s Short-Term Fellowship program in Chicago. It supports scholars whose projects contribute to a deeper understanding of America’s founding principles, history, and/or the wider traditions that influenced its development. Research must depend on specific items in the Newberry’s collections, with the fellowship providing one month of intensive research and participation in the library’s scholarly community.
The broader short-term program welcomes PhD-holding scholars and ABD PhD candidates working in any field where Newberry collection materials are essential to the project. Applicants submit through that program rather than applying separately for the Jack Miller Center Fellowship. Awardees are matched with applicable named fellowship funds, and this fellowship requires no opt-in or additional application questions.
