--- ## Description The James R. Jewett Prize provides funding for visiting scholars conducting research focused on the biology of flowers and/or fruits, with a strong preference for projects that make use of the Arnold Arboretum’s extensive living collection of temperate woody plants. The Arboretum offers access to world-class botanical resources, including a living collection of over 15,000 accessioned plants, the Harvard Botanical Library, and the Harvard University Herbaria. The Prize aims to foster research collaborations, highlight the value of the Arboretum’s collections, and support collegial exchanges within the botanical research community. --- ## Due Dates - Application portal anticipated to open: November 2025 - Full application and letters of recommendation anticipated deadline: February 2026 *All dates are projected based on the annual cycle; check the program page for updates.* --- ## Funding Amount - Awards of up to $10,000 are available. - Funds may be used for research expenses and/or travel related to the proposed research. - Funding is not intended to supplement or replace departmental salaries or stipends, but may support the stipend/salary of an undergraduate intern appointed through the applicant's home institution. --- ## Eligibility - Open to researchers at various career stages, with a preference for visiting scholars. - Projects must focus on the biology of flowers and/or fruits. - Strong preference for proposals that utilize the living collections of the Arnold Arboretum. - No specific citizenship requirements are noted. - Faculty and senior scientists/principal investigators are not required to submit letters of recommendation. --- ## Application Process - Applications are submitted online during the specified portal window. - Required materials: - Cover letter - 1–2 page research statement (describe project, aims, and use of the Arnold Arboretum’s living collection; references excluded from page limit) - 1-page research budget (itemize research and travel costs) - Project timeline (anticipated start and end dates) - Curriculum vitae - Two letters of recommendation (not required for faculty or senior scientists/PIs) - Requests for recommendations are sent via the application system; referees upload letters directly. - Applications are evaluated based on: - Applicant’s background and readiness - Quality of the research proposal - Relevance to the Arboretum’s living collections [Submit Application](https://arboretumscholars.communityforce.com/Funds/Search.aspx) --- ## Additional Information - The James R.
