    Description

The James W. Carey Urban Communication Grant is awarded by the Urban Communication Foundation (UCF) to advance knowledge of the consequences of urban communication in and across urban societies. It supports research already underway or in the planning stages, welcoming work that engages different urban actors, supports civic engagement, and promotes equitable access to communication opportunities in cities.

Inspired by James W. Carey’s commitment to urbanity, community, and scholarship as citizenship, the grant emphasizes the social and cultural consequences of technological and media change. Priority goes to innovative, creative approaches to studying transformations of urban communities and urban public life, especially during local and global change. Proposals from the Global South are particularly welcome, and research addressing race and racial justice is encouraged.
