Key Information: US applicants must have eight or fewer years in practice and be active AOA Members or Emerging Leaders.
The Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) Traveling Fellowship is presented by the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA), with three-week tours sponsored by the JOA. In even years, US fellows visit leading Japanese academic centers and historical landmarks. In odd years, Japanese fellows are hosted by orthopaedic surgeons across the United States, with the US tour beginning or ending at the AOA Annual Meeting.
The fellowship combines academic, leadership, and social experiences to help fellows develop their leadership skills, research interests, and career goals. It connects participants with orthopaedic leaders, host institutions, and fellowship alumni while preparing them to address critical issues facing the specialty. Hosts are encouraged to build distinctive programs around their institutions’ academic strengths and local historical environments.
