    Description

The Jeffress Trust Awards Program in Research Advancing Health Equity funds research projects that address the root causes and systemic barriers to health equity in Virginia. The program places a strong emphasis on community engagement, authentic partnerships, and actionable research that can lead to policy, systems, or environmental changes. There are two primary award types:

    • Partnership/Collaborative Establishment Awards: Support the development and establishment of collaborative research partnerships over two years.
    • Research Awards: Fund established partnerships (previous Partnership awardees only) to undertake three-year research projects that advance health equity.

    Projects may focus on:

    • Policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) change strategies analysis
    • Program/practice analysis
    • General research that is actionable and has clear, tangible outcomes for advancing health equity

The program encourages proposals that are community-led and that build the capacity of organizations and communities to address health disparities, with a particular focus on racial and structural inequities.
