Description
The Jennifer C. Groot Memorial Fellowships, administered by the American Center of Research (ACOR), help undergraduate and graduate students gain archaeological field experience in Jordan. The awards provide partial payment of essential expenses for participation in an archaeological excavation or survey. They are intended for beginners with little or no prior archaeological field experience who have been accepted as team members on projects in Jordan.
The fellowship honors Jennifer C. Groot, an archaeologist and teacher who worked on excavations in Jordan between 1974 and 1987, including Tell Hisban, the Limes Arabicus Project, and Umm el-Jimal. Family, friends, and colleagues established the fellowship to continue her connection between archaeological work and teaching. The first award was made in 1989.
