Description
The JGS Fellowship for Photography is administered by the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA), with funding from The Joy of Giving Something (JGS). It supports artists living and working outside New York City whose practice uses traditional or experimental still photography. Eligible approaches include light-based work, alternative processes, and mixed-media forms in which photography or photographic techniques play a pivotal role without being the exclusive medium.
The fellowship recognizes an artist’s voice and vision rather than financing a proposed project. Review centers on completed work and the strength of the artist’s practice and motivations. Priorities include creativity, technical proficiency, a cohesive artistic vision, and originality in ideas, materials, or techniques. Innovation may also take the form of place-based work informed by a particular location, community, or environment.
