Description
Administered by NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Marine Mammal Health and Stranding Response Program, this competition funds eligible U.S. National Marine Mammal Stranding Network and Entanglement Response Network participants and their collaborators. Work concerns cetaceans and pinnipeds, excluding walrus. It can support recovery and care of sick, injured, or entangled animals; emergency response; collection of data and samples for research or health assessments; directly related facility operating costs; and response capacity and training where facilities are sparse.
The four program priorities are stranding response, entanglement response, diagnostic laboratories and other national or multi-regional services, and research and development. Projects may address national or applicable regional goals. Collaborative proposals that extend benefits across organizations or regions are encouraged.
