Due Dates: February 15, 2027 (Spring and Summer meetings) | August 15, 2027 (Fall and Winter meetings)
Funding Amounts: Up to $2,000 for meeting presentations; up to $1,000 for workshops or short courses
Summary: Supports students and recent Ph.D. graduates traveling to present microfossil research or attend foraminifera-oriented workshops and short courses.
Key Information: Applicants must be Cushman Foundation members at the time of application.
The Cushman Foundation for Foraminiferal Research offers this travel award to current undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students, as well as recent Ph.D. graduates. It supports travel to present thesis or dissertation results in oral or poster sessions at Foundation-approved professional meetings. Students may also receive support to attend foraminifera-oriented workshops or short courses.
Meeting presentations should address microfossils or the organisms that produce them. The award distinguishes research on living or fossil foraminifera from work using microfossils solely as geochemical indicators: the latter is excluded. Geochemical research relating to an aspect of living or fossil foraminifera is eligible, provided that connection is explained in the presentation abstract. Workshops and short courses concerned solely with microfossils as geochemical indicators are also excluded.
