Description
The Kentucky Justice & Public Safety Cabinet administers Kentucky’s share of the federal Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) program. Its Criminal Justice Statistical Analysis Center (CJSAC) oversees grantmaking and awards. Funding supports law enforcement, prosecution and courts, prevention and education, corrections and reentry, drug treatment and enforcement, planning and evaluation, technology improvement, and crime victim and witness initiatives other than compensation.
Supported work also includes mental health programs, behavioral interventions, crisis intervention teams, and crisis intervention court initiatives, including mental health, drug, and veterans’ courts and extreme risk protection order programs. Kentucky’s 2024–2029 strategy emphasizes addiction and overdose reduction, recidivism reduction, innovative crime and violence reduction, and law enforcement training and wellness. The program supports existing successful initiatives while seeking innovative, time-limited proposals from new applicants.
