Description
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program supports programs with a high probability of improving the criminal justice system. South Carolina’s Office of Highway Safety and Justice Programs (OHSJP), within the Department of Public Safety, administers these federal funds as subawards. Funding supports additional personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual services, training, technical assistance, and information systems tied to an actual program.
Eligible work spans law enforcement, prosecution and courts, prevention and education, corrections, drug treatment and enforcement, planning and technology, victim and witness initiatives other than compensation, mental health, and crisis intervention court programs. Funding priorities include narcotics, gang and violent-crime enforcement; law enforcement and forensic laboratory training and equipment; specialty courts and court technologies; specialized prosecution; officer wellness and suicide prevention; and Crisis Intervention Teams. Agencies without direct JAG awards receive priority.
