Description
The Kansas Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program, administered by the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), supports K-12 students and their families in safely and comfortably walking, biking, and rolling to school. The program provides two main grant types:
- Planning Grants: Offer technical assistance (via a pre-selected consultant) to help communities develop comprehensive SRTS Plans that identify strategies and infrastructure improvements to foster safe and active transportation.
- Programming Grants: Provide direct funding to implement non-infrastructure activities (such as education and encouragement programs) identified in an existing SRTS Plan.
The initiative aims to build a culture of active commuting, improve safety, and enhance the environment around Kansas schools.
