Description
The Kate Van Winkle Keller Fellowship supports scholars researching and writing about American music or dance using the American Antiquarian Society’s collections. Administered by AAS, it is open to researchers from graduate students to senior scholars, including those affiliated with academic institutions and independent scholars. Projects must be appropriate to the Society’s research collections.
The fellowship is funded through an endowment established by Keller’s family and friends and by the Society for American Music (SAM), where she was a founding member and the first Executive Director. Past projects have explored nineteenth-century female hymnodists, Anglo-American exchanges in abolitionist song, sacred music imprints and manuscripts through 1820, gendered music circulation, and cultural appropriation in nineteenth-century performing arts.
