The Kentucky Department for Libraries & Archives (KDLA) offers this tuition scholarship under the authority of the Kentucky State Board for the Certification of Librarians. It supports library science education for Kentucky public library staff, encouraging successful completion of classes through accredited or approved programs and continued development of staff skills and knowledge.
The program connects formal study with Kentucky’s certification framework. State law requires public libraries to be administered and staffed by appropriately certified personnel, and KRS 171.303–171.306 authorizes the Certification Board to encourage library science education through scholarships. The Board views continuing education as essential to keeping pace with developments in the information age. Directors and library staff working toward initial certification receive special consideration during selection.
