The Kellogg-Lucy Policy and Practice Research Lab is a partnership between the Kellogg Institute for International Studies and the Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society at the University of Notre Dame. It supports cross-disciplinary research addressing difficult democratic challenges through social science, data science, and AI methods, connecting rigorous scholarly inquiry with concrete global issues and policy impact.
The lab links normative and theoretical work with empirical, applied, and policy-relevant research. Priorities include exploring the intersection of AI, data science, and democracy, contributing to contemporary public policy debates—particularly AI policy related to democracy—and partnering with international institutions and practitioners to improve practice. Funding supports shared research activities and project costs while incubating sustained collaborations capable of attracting external funding and producing significant research and policy outputs.
