Description
Administered by the American Chemical Society Green Chemistry Institute (ACS GCI), this award recognizes outstanding student contributions to green chemistry and engineering through research or studies. Established in 1997 in honor of Dr. Kenneth G. Hancock, it highlights chemical technologies that apply green chemistry principles to the design, manufacture, and use of chemicals, with potential to prevent pollution.
Relevant work must address at least one of three focus areas: greener synthetic pathways, greener reaction conditions, or greener chemical products. Examples include using renewable or lower-hazard feedstocks, replacing hazardous solvents or reagents, improving energy efficiency, and designing safer, recyclable, or biodegradable products. The award is presented in conjunction with the annual Green Chemistry & Engineering Conference.
