The Kentucky Academy of Science (KAS) Special Research Program supports research related to any of the Academy’s disciplinary sections, including the physical, biological, behavioral, and engineering sciences. The program is directed particularly toward faculty at public or private Kentucky higher education institutions involved primarily in undergraduate education. It is KAS’s most competitive grant category.
Priority goes to research involving undergraduate students and to new investigators, including senior faculty beginning research in a new direction. The program values significant, innovative, problem-based projects that advance educational quality, with feasible methods and measurable goals for assessing progress. Beginning with 2027 grants, applications from institutions primarily focused on undergraduate teaching receive preference, while KAS members at research institutions remain welcome to apply.
