The Local Government Economic Development Fund (LGEDF), also known as “Single-County” Coal Severance grants, supports economic and industrial development projects in Kentucky’s coal-producing counties. The Kentucky Department for Local Government’s Coal Development Branch administers the program, using state funds to promote economic development across the Commonwealth. Eligible project scope is defined by KRS 42.4588.
LGEDF provides project-focused grant support, distinct from the branch’s Local Government Economic Assistance Fund (LGEAF), which distributes severance-tax revenue to eligible local governments. The HB 500 sample authorizing resolution for fiscal years 2026–2028 describes county submission of a project proposal or grant application to the Department for Local Government, with legislative concurrence and the County Judge/Executive serving as the project’s authorized correspondent.
