--- ## Description The King/Lott Scholarship is awarded by the National Press Photographers Foundation (NPPF) to honor the legacies of Kit King and Jimi Lott—two influential newspaper photojournalists renowned for their compassion, technical skill, and dedication to visual storytelling. This scholarship aims to support undergraduate and graduate students who embody these values, encouraging the next generation of photojournalists to approach their work with both technical excellence and empathy, and to give voice to underrepresented or overlooked communities. --- ## Due Dates - February 2027 (anticipated full application deadline) *All dates are projected based on the annual cycle; check the program page for updates.* --- ## Funding Amount - $2,500 per scholarship - Award is given as a one-time payment, typically deposited into the recipient’s university/college bursar account or mailed as a check (recipient’s choice). --- ## Eligibility - Open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled for the spring semester at a four-year college or university in the United States. - International students residing in the U.S. and enrolled at eligible institutions may apply. - Applicants must be pursuing a career in photojournalism or visual storytelling. - A recommendation letter from a professor familiar with the applicant’s photojournalism work is required (on university letterhead, dated, and signed). - Applicants must adhere to the National Press Photographers Association’s Code of Ethics. - Portfolio submission is required, showcasing technical skill and storytelling ability. --- ## Application Process 1. **Prepare Materials:** - Complete the NPPF CV submission form ([download here](https://nppf.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/NPPF_Scholarship_CV_form.pdf)). - Obtain a recommendation letter from a professor/lecturer familiar with your work. - Prepare a portfolio of up to 24 images (JPEG/MP4/MOV), with captions and required metadata.
