    Description

The Robert J. Kleberg, Jr. and Helen C. Kleberg Foundation supports applied research and habitat restoration that fill critical knowledge gaps for native wildlife, primarily in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas. Priorities include native plant establishment, ecosystem integrity, Nearctic-Neotropical migratory bird stopover habitats, and endangered or sensitive species endemic to the region. Projects addressing threats to South Texas wildlife and habitats, habitat protection, and culturally significant natural heritage are also of interest.

The animal science component supports research on the diagnosis, effective treatment, and prevention of animal diseases, primarily in cattle and horses. It also supports animal genome and genetic mechanism studies, and research contributing to improved animal or human health. Wildlife conservation requests use the General Application; medical animal research studies use the Medical Research Study Application.
