Description
The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation Advised Fund, advised by Central Carolina Community Foundation, supports projects that make the City of Columbia and Richland County more vibrant, connected, and economically strong. Its geographic focus includes downtown Columbia, the Congaree riverfront, and surrounding communities. Funding advances civic engagement and community participation, placemaking and public spaces, arts and cultural experiences, and entrepreneurship and economic opportunity.
The fund aims to strengthen democracy and foster inclusive communities through innovative, risk-taking initiatives that build on local assets and momentum. Priorities include attracting and retaining talent, enhancing public life through smart urban design, and supporting equitable public spaces and leadership. Projects are encouraged to connect residents to community assets, engage underrepresented populations, and prototype ideas that can serve as models for broader community benefit.
