The Patrick Leahy Lake Champlain Basin Program (LCBP), in coordination with the New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC), supports on-the-ground implementation projects advancing the Healthy Ecosystem goals of Opportunities for Action: An Evolving Plan for the Future of the Lake Champlain Basin. Projects must directly prevent aquatic invasive species from spreading within or into the basin, or manage their impacts within the basin.
The program prioritizes preventing new invasive-species populations from becoming established and containing or reducing existing populations. It offers two complementary funding opportunities: spread prevention and management grants, and infrastructure grants for the same purpose. Support comes from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency funds awarded to NEIWPCC on behalf of LCBP, in partnership with the Great Lakes Fishery Commission (GLFC).
