Description
The Lake Monitoring & Protection Network (LMPN) is administered by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources through its Surface Water Grants program. It provides annual support for counties, tribes, and designated agents carrying out aquatic invasive species (AIS) prevention and lake monitoring in Wisconsin. Work is organized through a scope of work or cooperative agreement, with the goal of improving surface water quality through detection, prevention, and monitoring of AIS and lake conditions.
The network supports citizen monitoring, watercraft inspections, volunteer training, prevention campaigns, outreach, and related data management. Partners coordinate activities with DNR staff and local organizations. Prevention work may target invasion pathways, including organisms in trade, recreational activities and service providers, transportation and utility corridors, and aquatic surveying and monitoring.
