Description
The Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) is a federal recreation grant program administered by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR). It supports land acquisition and development projects that provide public access for outdoor recreation. Eligible applicants include Wisconsin local governments, Tribal governments and school districts. The program supports both nature-based recreation and active outdoor recreation facilities, including ballfields and splash pads.
Recreation projects described in the shared application guidance include acquiring land for parks and trails, including riverfront property; constructing hiking trails and bike paths; and building canoe and kayak launches, including universally accessible launches. Riverfront park amenities, park shelters and restroom facilities are also examples. Public outdoor recreation access is central to both acquisition and development projects.
