Land and Water Conservation Fund
The Land and Water Conservation Fund supports Vermont public agencies and tribal governments in acquiring land and improving outdoor recreation facilities to meet recreation needs and keep sites open to the public.

Description
The Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) provides National Park Service funding for public outdoor recreation. In Vermont, the Department of Forests, Parks & Recreation administers grants to acquire land for parks and outdoor recreation, develop new facilities, and renovate existing facilities. Projects may combine acquisition and development. The program aims to create parks and open spaces, enhance recreation areas, and protect wilderness and forests.
Applications must address an identified need in Vermont’s Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan, as well as local and regional needs. Funded recreation areas must be maintained and remain open for public outdoor recreation in perpetuity. Projects are selected through Vermont’s Open Project Selection Process and require National Park Service approval.
