The Sarcoma Foundation of America (SFA) provides Last Mile awards to help sarcoma researchers strengthen the resubmission of an R01 or R01-equivalent grant proposal. Named after SFA’s Race to Cure Sarcoma events, the program aims to leverage larger funders to increase investment in sarcoma research. It supports all types of research in human sarcomas, with the goal of developing improved therapeutic options for patients.
Areas of particular interest include immunotherapy, omic characterization and novel targets, omic patterns of sensitivity and resistance to existing agents, systemic therapy combinations, and gene therapy. Funding decisions consider research innovation and impact, investigators’ financial circumstances and needs, and the likelihood that additional studies will move a resubmitted proposal into the funding range.
