Description
The AATS Leadership Academy, offered by the American Association for Thoracic Surgery Foundation, develops the administrative, interpersonal, and mentoring skills needed to serve successfully as an academic cardiothoracic surgeon. This intensive, didactic, and interactive program connects up to 22 surgeons with established cardiothoracic surgical leaders and invited guest speakers.
The Academy focuses on non-technical leadership skills relevant across institutions of different sizes and locations. Faculty presentations and open forum discussions help participants generate ideas to implement at their own institutions. A one-to-one ratio of attendees to faculty supports focused networking, potential personal mentorship, and long-term professional relationships. The program serves early- and mid-career surgeons seeking to acquire or refine leadership skills.
