    Description

Since 2009, LEF New England has partnered with The Flaherty to support New England-based nonfiction filmmakers’ participation in the annual Flaherty Film Seminar. The Seminar brings filmmakers, curators, scholars, students, and media professionals together to view and discuss film and video works selected by a guest programmer. Its central principle is non-preconception: neither films nor their makers are revealed before screenings.

The fellowship offers an immersive setting for creative exploration, professional development, and lasting collaborations. Fellows participate in screenings and facilitated discussions, with additional fellowship programming such as workshops, artist lunches, and artist talks. The program encourages diversity of geography, ethnicity, class, and experience, treating these perspectives as essential to its critical exchange. The Flaherty manages applications and selects fellows; LEF New England provides financial support.
