LEF Foundation’s Moving Image Fund supports independent documentary film and video projects that demonstrate excellence in technique, originality of vision and voice, and creativity in form. Its Post-production Funding helps previously supported projects move toward completion through editing, rights, sound, color correction, and other finishing work. The program supports New England filmmakers and seeks to build a sustainable community of support for their work.
LEF welcomes a variety of nonfiction approaches, styles, and topics, with particular interest in artistic risk-taking and projects that engage with or expand documentary form. Hybrid nonfiction-fiction approaches can fit the program, while docudramas relying primarily on narrative reenactment are not a good fit. Review considers cinematic quality, the filmmaker’s distinctive perspective, the power of the central story or idea, and production feasibility.
