Description
The Aaron Copland Fund for Music’s Legacy Program recognizes organizations with an enduring commitment to contemporary American concert music and jazz and a shared history with Aaron Copland. It carries forward Copland’s advocacy for living composers through institutions connected to his work as a composer, mentor, organizer, and supporter of American music. Copland bequeathed a substantial part of his estate to the Fund, which has supported organizations and projects advancing this music for more than 30 years.
The program connects that history with ongoing work in contemporary American music. Legacy organizations sustain composer fellowships and residencies, commissions, concert programs, and opportunities to create, perform, and appreciate new music. Their activities also include preserving historical compositions, introducing new works, and expanding public engagement with American composers.
