The Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities (LEH), in partnership with the America 250 Louisiana State Commission and the Louisiana Office of the Lieutenant Governor, supports local programming commemorating the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. Projects should explore Louisiana’s contributions to the founding and development of the United States, connecting local history, foodways, folkways, music, and culture with broader themes of the American Revolutionary era.
Supported formats include participatory lectures, scholar-led film discussions, author and artist talks, panels, historical reenactments, theatrical productions, commemorative festivals, exhibits, public art and murals, historical markers, school field trips and events, and archival or museum acquisitions with a public component. Programs should use humanities interpretation, present balanced viewpoints, and reach public audiences rather than exclusively scholarly communities. Participation by qualified humanities scholars is encouraged where applicable.
