Description
This European Commission opportunity, under the Horizon Europe Missions, supports projects establishing research-driven living labs to monitor, remediate, and mitigate carcinogenic substances in soils, evaluating their effects on human cancer risks. The grant aims to advance understanding of environmental pathways through which carcinogenic substances (such as PFAS, heavy metals, pesticides) impact human and environmental health, and to develop innovative, participatory solutions for soil health challenges across diverse land uses.
Projects are expected to:
- Set up 4–5 research-focused living labs spanning at least three different EU Member States or Associated Countries, prioritizing regions with the greatest need.
- Co-create and demonstrate locally adapted solutions for soil remediation, bioaccumulation analysis, and cancer risk assessment.
- Foster interdisciplinary, multi-actor collaboration, including researchers, landowners, SMEs, public administrators, and civil society.
- Implement robust data sharing and knowledge transfer practices, ensuring long-term sustainability of living labs and contributing to European Green Deal, EU Biodiversity, and Soil Strategies for 2030.
