Description
Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) administers Local Bridge Improvement Assistance to help local governments preserve, rehabilitate, or replace existing bridges on local roads. The program uses documented inspection deficiencies and projected bridge needs to identify appropriate work, with funding focused on the minimum scope needed for a safe and effective facility. Eligible work can include preservation or rehabilitation for bridges identified by deck condition, and rehabilitation or replacement for those identified by superstructure, substructure, or culvert condition.
WisDOT’s Bureau of Structures develops the Bridge Project Scope Eligibility List from inspection information submitted by local governments. Local governments decide whether to apply, and each county reviews and prioritizes applications for bridges within its boundaries. The current program schedule covers state fiscal years 2027–2031.
