Description
ARDOT’s Local Bridge Program supports improvements to and replacement of bridges on Arkansas public roads outside the Federal-aid Highway System. Eligible improvements may include replacement, rehabilitation, preservation, protection, and construction. ARDOT’s Program Management Division administers the program and reviews requests from local public agencies.
The program prioritizes bridges in poor or fair condition, bridges posted for weight limits or otherwise operationally restricted, and bridges with demonstrated safety issues. Approved projects begin with a feasibility study to recommend an improvement, assess environmental impact, and develop preliminary plans and a planning-level cost estimate. At the agency’s request, a project may then proceed to further development and construction.
