Description
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) administers the Local Bridge Program for local agencies working on Michigan bridges. The program supports construction costs for projects selected to replace, rehabilitate, or maintain local bridges. MDOT requests applications annually, checks them for completeness and funding eligibility, visits bridge sites, and calculates rating points.
Seven Regional Bridge Councils add discretionary ratings and develop three-year bridge plans based on project scores and regional funding allocations. The Local Bridge Advisory Board reviews and approves those plans and oversees large and moveable bridge projects and emergency bridge applications. Selected projects move into the bridge design phase, where MDOT reviews plans and specifications.
