Description
The Washington State Department of Transportation’s Local Bridge Program helps cities and counties preserve and improve bridges that are physically deteriorated or structurally deficient. It supports replacement, rehabilitation, and systematic preventive maintenance for locally owned bridges, whether they are on or off the federal-aid system.
Washington’s program combines funding set aside from the National Highway Performance Program and the Surface Transportation Block Grant program. This arrangement followed the elimination of the federal Highway Bridge Program as a stand-alone funding source and provides a way to address poor bridge conditions across both systems.
