Description
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) administers the Local Bridge Program to preserve and improve physically deteriorated or structurally deficient bridges owned by cities and counties. The program supports bridges both on and off the federal-aid system through a local bridge set-aside drawing from the National Highway Performance Program and Surface Transportation Block Grant program.
The Federal Local Bridge Program call supports replacement, major rehabilitation, and preservation or risk-reduction work, including steel painting, scour mitigation, seismic retrofits, and deck repairs. It encourages practical solutions and asset management strategies that maximize a structure’s expected service life cost-effectively. Local agency bridge owners may also bundle qualifying preservation activities across multiple structures and are encouraged to partner with adjacent counties or cities.
