Description
The Local Bridges Fund is administered by the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s Division of Local Aid and Economic Development to improve county-owned bridges across New Jersey’s 21 counties. Grants support preventive maintenance, rehabilitation, and replacement, with priority given to bridges that are structurally deficient, scour critical, or functionally obsolete.
The program seeks to remove bridges from those classifications and prevent bridges from becoming structurally deficient or scour critical. Its primary focus is structures longer than 20 feet. Secondary interventions, including minor bridges and certain urgent repairs or deteriorating bridge elements, are considered only when no structures qualify for primary intervention. Project review also considers construction readiness.
