Description
The Local Freight Impact Fund is administered by the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s Division of Local Aid and Economic Development. It helps counties and municipalities mitigate freight-industry impacts on public roads and bridges, improve large-truck movement, renew aging infrastructure, enhance safety, and support economic development.
The program funds bridge and pavement preservation, new construction, truck safety and mobility, and pedestrian safety. Supported work includes resurfacing, reconstruction, bridge rehabilitation or replacement, truck-route improvements, signals, roundabouts accommodating trucks, and bypass roads serving freight destinations. Pedestrian projects may improve crossings, sidewalks, accessibility, lighting, and bicycle connections along local roads. The program emphasizes safe and efficient movement of goods alongside safety and accessibility for people.
