Description
The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) administers this program to help local governments accelerate the pace and scale of forest management across federal, state, or private lands in Montana. Supported work aims to reduce wildland fire hazards, improve forest health, and enhance economic productivity while advancing the Montana Forest Action Plan.
The program supports county foresters, support staff, and contractors who strengthen local government participation in cross-boundary management. It also supports coordinated community wildfire mitigation, particularly in the home ignition zone, including landowner technical assistance and assessments. Related travel can help local government representatives and collaborative partners implement projects and understand forest management procedures and regulations. Counties may also request financial assistance for projects under litigation.
