    Description

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Office of Spill Prevention and Response (OSPR) administers the Local Government Grant Program to strengthen local oil spill readiness and environmental protection. It supports local governments adjacent to marine waters in updating existing local oil spill contingency plans, attending Area Contingency Planning meetings, and participating in oil spill-related exercises and related training. These activities support OSPR’s goal of providing the best achievable protection of California’s natural resources.

All eligible local governments have submitted their initial local oil spill contingency plans. The selection and application review process for new plans has therefore been repealed, and the program now focuses on maintaining existing plans and supporting participation in preparedness activities.
