Description
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) administers the Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) program to support annual improvements to local roadway networks. Developed in cooperation with ACCG, GMA, and others, the program gives local governments greater flexibility and supports quicker project delivery while streamlining GDOT’s administration. Its funding source is a percentage of the state motor fuel tax.
LMIG supports work ranging from preliminary engineering and construction inspection to resurfacing, drainage, intersection improvements, bridge repairs, and roadway safety installations. Annual allocations reflect each county or city’s centerline road mileage and population relative to statewide totals. Keeping local road inventory information current is therefore important to the allocation process.
