Description
Texas Parks & Wildlife Department’s Local Parks Grants comprise five programs for acquiring land, developing facilities, or both to expand public recreation across Texas. The programs serve local units of government responsible for providing recreation services. Grants reimburse half of eligible project costs, with the applicant providing the other half.
Projects are evaluated through a priority scoring system, and funding recommendations go to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission for final decisions. Funding comes from a portion of Texas sporting-goods sales tax revenue and from the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund. Grant-assisted sites must be maintained and open to the public.
