Description
The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) runs the Local Roads Oil & Shale Program to support infrastructure repairs in communities affected by increased truck traffic from oil and gas production. It funds repairs to roads in villages and municipalities, as well as county and township roads, where a Road Use and Maintenance Agreement (RUMA) does not cover the roadway.
The program addresses gaps in RUMA coverage, including state routes through small rural villages or municipalities and local roads affected by truck traffic associated with injection wells. Funded work covers construction and construction inspection for approved repairs. Past projects have included asphalt pavement rehabilitation, full-depth repairs, slip repairs, and intersection improvements.
